RIO TEJO

The Tagus River meanders through Spain before merging with the Atlantic Ocean via the Tagus estuary in Lisbon. Throughout a significant portion of the 21st century, the Lisbon riverbanks were predominantly associated with industrial activities with very limited public access.

As the industrial sector witnessed a decline, numerous sites faced closure. Seizing this opportunity, the Portuguese government and local authorities embarked on a transformative journey, considering new urban projects and reconceptualizing the Tagus banks as a multifaceted space catering to leisure, culture, tourism, and innovative real estate developments. This shift aimed not only to revive the area but also to provide the public, locals and tourists, with enhanced opportunities for entertainment and engagement with the scenic beauty of the Tagus River.
